The Rogue Valley boot camp workout is part of an increasingly popular trend. Fitness boot camps are springing up in parks and other indoor facilities around the nation. The boot camps incorporate the drills and calisthenics used in military boot camps, but most are doing so without the tactics of a screaming drill sergeant. This is not your grandmother's aerobics
class!
These rigorous exercise programs are gaining popularity because they provide fast results. "You work the entire body in a very short period of time with various types of exercises," said Tiazza, a certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist who teaches the Rogue Valley boot camps in Ashland, Medford and Central Point. You will sweat, you will be sore and you will get results!
"These are easy to fit into a busy schedule," Tiazza added, because the typically hour-long sessions are often held in the early morning or evening and are offered as brief, four week sessions, with a break of several days before the next session starts. "And many people find them to be out of the box and more engaging than the traditional hop on the exercise bike or treadmill," Tiazza said. This is because boot camps take people out of the gym set up. Boot camps are high-intensity programs that involve strength and balance training, and cardiovascular conditioning. You will be encouraged to strive for a certain number of repetitions. You will also be told to do as many reps as you can in a certain amount of time, such as performing as many push-ups as possible in a minute.Get out of your comfort zone and push your limit! Relay races, games and running drills are regular parts of the workouts. The goal is to keep moving with very short breaks so the heart rate stays up, which burns more calories. The workouts are designed to suit beginners and more advanced students. The exercises are also modified to accommodate the physical limitations of participants. "Anybody, at any age and any fitness level, can do this class," said Tiazza. |
